The King’s Awards for Enterprise

You are cordially invited to an event hosted at South Devon College and supported by TDA, to learn more about The King’s Awards for Enterprise, how and why your business could be eligible and the benefits of applying and winning such an award. More information can be found on the next page.

The event is designed for owners / managers, managing directors and businesses leaders of companies and groups in Torbay, South Devon and will consists of:

· 3.30-4.00pm – arrival with tea/coffee and soft drinks available

· 4:00-5:00pm – Presentation hour, which will include:

o A Presentation from Brian Wills-Pope MBE, DL, representing HM Lord-Lieutenant of Devon, who will provide some details about The King’s Awards for Enterprise (the 4 categories, the benefits of winning, eligibility criteria, the application process and Devon’s progress).

o Speakers from past winner(s) of the Queen’s Award & Kings Award for Enterprise, will talk about the experience of the application process and what it is like for a business to win.

o Q&A

· 5:00-6pm – Networking with light refreshments and drink available

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are regarded as the highest official UK awards for British businesses and remains one of the many great legacies of the Duke of Edinburgh, who was instrumental in the creation in 1960s and have been involved in their development.

A unique and highly prestigious award, The King’s Award for Enterprise is awarded by the King and presented by HM Lord-lieutenant of Devon, his Majesty’s personal representative in the County, after recommendation by an independent national panel which examines each application. Around 200 awards granted nationally each year.

Recognised globally, The King’s Award for Enterprise signifies excellence and provides prestigious endorsement, with previous winners testifying that there are many immediate and long-term benefits including the achievements of the company, building confidence with trading partners and customers and access to new markets and customers.

Large or Small companies from any sector, trading in regional, national, or international markets can apply, as long as the company is a self-contained enterprise based in the UK, files tax returns with HMRC and has at least 2 full time equivalent employees. Companies can apply for a King’s Award for Enterprise through four distinct categories, including:

· International Trade

· Innovation

· Sustainable Development

· Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility)

According to past applicants, the process of applying was beneficial in thinking strategically about their business with high quality feedback being provided, where for those who do not succeed one year are often able to come back the following year and win.

This year, two out of the five King’s Awards for Enterprise 2023 winners from Devon are based in Torbay winning in the category of International Trade. So why not apply?

Applications for the 2024 Awards are open from May 2023 to September 2023.
