R50: Hi Louise, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your business?
Louise: I’m Louise Jenner and I’m known as “The Dream Job Coach” because I support individuals to create their ideal working life whether they are employed or self-employed. I was born and brought up in Devon and after 20 years of living and working elsewhere, I’m now back home. I live with my husband Steve and our springer spaniel, Reuben.
R50: What made you start your business, and what are you trying to achieve with it?
Louise: I started my business in 2013 after a long career in retail and hospitality because the time was right for me to make some changes to my work/life balance. In fact, the time had been right for a while already. I’d ignored the signs for some time, but when a tree fell on my head during a trip to Prague I think it finally knocked some sense into me!
Having been responsible for recruiting my own teams for so many years, I wanted to share what I’d learnt with all the potentially good candidates out there who kept getting overlooked at interviews. Quickly, I realised that this would require more than tweaking CVs and teaching interview skills.
That’s when I created the Career Clarity Programme to help my clients get crystal clear about what they want from their next job or business before providing all the practical help they need to be able to make it happen.
I believe that when we’re happy at work, we tend to be happier in our personal lives too and that has a ripple effect on everyone around us.
My aim is to encourage everyone to do more of the work they love because that’s usually the kind of work they’re really good at!
R50: How were you affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns?
Louise: Luckily, I’d already started working on zoom several years before Covid because clients from further afield found it easier than driving to see me in person, so I was ahead of the curve there!
We moved from Gloucestershire to Devon in 2019 and the lockdowns gave us chance to focus on settling into our new home and surroundings in a very calm and peaceful way.
I feel very fortunate that I was still able to work online with my clients and support them during this crisis.
R50: How do you plan to support your clients through the cost-of-living crisis?
Louise: I’ve always tried to ensure that finance is not a barrier to receiving coaching by offering monthly payment options. I also provide some free and low-cost resources on my website, which are accessible to everyone.
R50: Do you have any big plans for the future?
Louise: Yes, I’m planning to continue championing working women through my involvement with Devon Women in Business. We support and celebrate their achievements through regular networking and the annual DWIB Awards. This year, we plan to introduce many more events, including training sessions and workshops to really support our members.
R50: Is there anything else you’d like to say to our audience?
Louise: If you’re not in your dream job, you’re in someone else’s! It’s not selfish to want to enjoy your work, because when you’re happy, everyone around you benefits from your positive energy.
You don’t need to wait for a tree to fall on your head – book your free Clarity Session now and let’s go from there!
R50: How can people get in touch with you?
